In conjunction with this term’s IY5609 Digital Forensics module, SANS (www.sans.org) will be providing a 3 day course, "SEC508: Computer Forensics, Investigation, and Response" on 6/7/8 March 2010 to be delivered in Tolansky Lab. This course has a specially prepared syllabus based on the SANS 6-day course of the same name and informed by the syllabus of IY5609. As part of the course you will receive a SANS Investigative Forensic Toolkit (SIFT) Advanced. Please refer to the course handout for further information about the course content and topics covered.
The course is available to current students and also to alumni. If you are in contact with alumni that might be interested, please "spam" them with these details. - the more students that register, the cheaper the course becomes! Special Academic pricing has been arranged for this course which includes the GCFA exam (GIAC Certified Forensic Analyst - Professional Certificate). The precise date for the exam has not yet been arranged but we are planning to hold it at Royal Holloway towards the end of June. Note that if you only want to attend the the course (and not sit the exam) you will still have to pay the same price. The cost for the course (including the exam) depends on the number of students that enrol. The sliding scale is as follows:
20-29: 1795 euro
30-39: 1695 euro
40-49: 1495 euro
50-60: 1395 euro
The intital RHUL student price is 1795 euro but students will receive a refund to the correct level once registration is closed and final registration numbers have been counted.

OPTION MODULE IY5609
The MSc module IY5609 Digital Forensics is also available to alumni as CPD. This module runs for the first time in the Spring Term 11 January to 26 March 2010 and is timetabled on Tuesdays 9-12am.
There are two ways to sign-up for this module:
If you want to do the exam and earn academic credit you should apply online to be a CPD student. When completing the Application Form, for the Programme Title choose ‘MSc in Information Security’ and in the General Research Area box enter ‘CPD mode: IY5609’. The College will advise you of the fees which are in the region of £1,100 for Home/EU students and £1,600 for Overseas students.
If you do not want to do the exam or earn academic credit the module is available to alumni at a reduced price of £500 as CPD for which a Certificate of Attendance will be issued by the ISG. Please contact Pauline to register interest.
Places on the SANS course are limited and preference will be given to applicants who are enrolled on the IY5609 module.
